Why Tweener Time Creativity Competitions?
Thirty to fifty percent of teenagers don't read voluntarily. We must do something different!
A different diet? Different authors.
1. Teens know what tweens want to read. So WHY NOT let teen authors write the chapter books for tweeners.
2. Let teens demonstrate that an active imagination and well developed language skills can entertain, motivate, and make money to boot. My tweener snitch says, “If it’s by a teenager, it can’t be all bad.” His buddy added, “Or too hard.”
Different results.
1. Double dividends. You will discover material tweens enjoy and you are developing the creative potential of some talented teenagers.
2. Teenagers can get a head start on a writing career and make money (royalty checks) too.
3. Books by teens for tweens is a lesson in serving. That may not be a lesson in language arts, but it is certainly a lesson in values.
4. When teens write for tweens, they can also earn college scholarships.
Different methods.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, we must use high school artists to advertise the story through a graphic presentation. Hence we have the Cover Art Competition.
Different meter.
Reluctant readers like limited words. Songs – poetry set to music – has captured reluctant readers who don’t realize they are reading as they follow the music score.
Why Tweener Time Mentoring?
If a mind is a terrible thing to waste, (and it is) it is a terrible thing to waste experience and knowledge of senior citizens. Retirement is not a biblical concept, and seniors have practical knowledge through personal experience instead of ‘book learning’ that tweener need and want.
Why Tweener Time Book Donations?
It is unethical to keep what you can share without reducing your own wealth. Giving the gift of a good book is like ‘apples of gold in pitchers of silver.” It has immeasurable value.
Our task is not to teach boys to read. Our task is to teach them to read voluntarily and on their own.
That’s why we have Tweener Ministries.
