Hannah's account:
Traveling to another continent and experiencing different cultures firsthand was an amazing adventure.
In Paris, I was startled to see how many people-- including us-- traveled by subway. The city is so old it was not built to accommodate many motor vehicles. We tried out the food (crepes should stay a breakfast food) and, of course, went shopping. In class, we talked about building the right kind of legacy to leave behind in this world. We discovered different communication styles and how certain people interact with others.
The curriculum was all tied in with the sights we saw: Notre Dame, the Louvre, and the Eiffel Tower. Such beautiful artwork and architecture! I could have spent weeks wandering the Louvre for there were so many interesting things. We only explored one wing of the museum, but we still got lost!
In Brussels we enjoyed Belgium Waffles and viewed a slightly risqué statue. Then, it was on to Haarlem and Amsterdam. The atmosphere in Haarlem was much more relaxed, and I was glad to be in a less touristy area. The Dutch were the nicest, most courteous people-- and, best of all, they spoke beautiful English! After reading The Hiding Place and The Diary of Anne Frank, I found it amazing to visit these places and see where Anne and Corrie actually lived. Only sixty years after the holocaust, Europe is back to normal, but Anne and Corrie have helped preserve history so we will never entirely forget it.
It was such a learning experience to go to all of these places. Joshua Expeditions is running a great ministry, and I wish everyone could get a chance to do something like this in their lifetime.
