April in Paris

The Tweener Time Chapter Book Competition has always included a reward for the teacher of the winning author as an integral part of its rewards. I wanted to be certain that the influence of a teacher was recognized. When Joshua Expedition leaders shared that goal and provided the gift of a seven-day study-tour of Paris, I was delighted.

How do you measure the influence of a teacher? Seeing the achievement of students is rewarding, but I wanted there to be a more tangible recognition of the impact of a teacher.

Deciding to write a book is the easy part. Sticking with the project until it is finished is a major accomplishment. Teachers encourage, challenge, inspire, and sometimes prod students to reach a goal. That's what teaching is all about.

Monica Stahlhut, our first winner, received the reward because of the creativity and writing ability of her daughter, Hannah. This award was given only to Monica, the teacher of the winning author, but Hannah decided to use her own money and joined the educational tour with her mother.
